The Congress of the South African Trade Union has expressed concern over the country’s transport system.

In a statement Cosatu said recent reports have suggested that there are serious challenges in the transport system, from the mode of transport to the safety of passengers.

Cosatu’s Khwezi Mabasa said some of the problems in the transport sector are related to reduced state funding and particular the bus subsidy and also based on the fact that public money has been used to fund the Gautrain and only the small portion of the population.

Mabasa added that the Cosatu leadership is going to have a meeting with the Minister of Transport to raise the issue and also try to find a solution.
