In an effort to reduce and promote awareness on fire prevention in the province, MEC for local government and housing in the Western Cape, Richard Dyanti will launch this year’s Fire Awareness Campaign in Khayamandi on Wednesday.
“The Western Cape is a disaster prone area and we don’t want to wait for the disasters to occur but do as much as we can to prevent it,” says local government and housing spokesperson, Vusi Tshose.
People in communities will be given tips on how they can minimise the amount of fires that are occurring in areas, particularly veld fire areas as well as informal settlements.
“We hope that we’ll be able to get into people’s minds especially on days where people are careless by leaving everything just as they are in their houses because they are enjoying themselves,” says Tshose.
Tshose added that if residents can take one precaution in terms of preventing fire then we can have long lasting communities.
