The South African Bureau of Standards are warning the public of not buying the A3 VOLTCO Electrical adaptors as they pose danger to the public after failing to meet basic safety requirements.

According to the SABS thorough tests were done to the adaptors and it’s emerged that the A3 VOLTCO adaptors are particularly dangerous to consumers and households and can cause fire hazards.

The regulatory body said in a statement that VOLTCO the manufacturer of the adaptors had more than 300 000 of the non-compliant adaptors waiting to be sold to the public after SABS inspectors done further investigation.

“The regulator took a number of initiatives to assist the company to comply by applying corrective measures such as meeting the basic requirements, however the company failed to co-operate,” said the bureau.

The bureau elaborated that they had issued the company with a legal instruction not to sell the products, but continued nevertheless.

“This is a clear indication that some companies put profit before the safety of the clients.”

SABS said it’s not easy identifying the adaptors, but they could be identified by looking for the name of the company, Voltco, in the centre, and A3 written with it.

VOLTCO were unavailable for comment.
