Hundreds of residents in Happy Valley informal settlement in Blackheath are soon to have their homes electrified just in time for Christmas.
“We very pleased to announce that as from Thursday contractors have moved into the area to supply power to 420 residents that have been long awaiting the electricity,” says spokesperson of the City of Cape Town’s subcouncil, Pieter Van Dalen.
For the past two years, more than half of the residents have had to make do without any electricity due to many of them being relocated.
Louis Smith, a resident of Happy Valley says that it was a big surprise for them.
“To live in light is good, we are feeling very good about the power and it seems like everything’s on its way. The people are actually starting on the work, it’s no more empty promises.” says Smith.
