The African Christian Democratic Party in the Western Cape has raised its concern regarding the increase in the number of pregnant pupils at primary school.

Statistics reveal that there has been an increase of 14.3 percent in pregnancies among female learners compared to last year’s figures.

ACDP Provincial Leader Ferlon Christians said this needs to be addressed urgently.

Christians said we believe that a school should strongly discourage sex before marriage and we must look at the curriculum at school. Inappropriate sex communication should not be allowed at school, it should be amended.

Christians said we need to look at how to build health families and a strong based valued society.
