Lusanda Bill
10 April 2015
The Congress of South African
Trade Union has welcomed the extension of consultations on the Unemployment
Insurance Fund contribution holiday.
Cosatu Industrial Policy
Coordinator Jonas Mosia said one of the objections they had was that workers
and employers contribute equally into the UIF and therefore they must be consulted
when changes are made to the fund.
Mosia said we want a serious engagement
as we did during the global financial crisis. We agreed that UIF must load IDC
some money so that there could be investment in job creating initiatives, and
indeed more than 20 000 jobs were created.
“We want to at least use this
opportunity to engage seriously at Nedlac so that is why we welcome the
extension by the Minister of Finance for the consultation period” Mosia added.
