The University of Cape Town said it will hold a public participation process to determine the final venue of where the statue of Cecil John Rhodes will be placed.

This as the statue was removed from the university, eighty-one years since it was placed there.

UCT Spokesperson Riana Geldenhuys said the removal of the statue happened successfully yesterday and this was in consultation with Heritage Western Cape.

Geldenhuys said the removal follows a decision by the UCT council to accept a proposal to have the statue removed. The statue has now been taken to a safe location which has been approved by Heritage Western Cape.
