The Democratic Alliance says it is shocking that the Minister of Finance , Nhlanhla Nene , announced revised spending plans to reduce waste, including cost cutting on “non-critical activities”, such as travel and subsistence, a decision has reportedly been taken to spend approximately R 2 billion on VIP jets for the President Jacob Zuma and his Cabinet.

DA Shadow Minister of Defence and Military Veterans David Maynier says it is outrageous that at the very year the minister of finance announces a war on waste, particularly cost-cutting on travel and subsistence, President Jacob Zuma and the Cabinet is going to spend two billion rand on three new private jets.

Maynier said in the end it is simply wrong to spend two billion rand on new VIP jets when so many people in our country are poor.
