One man was killed and seven others injured last night when a bakkie and a car collided head-on on theR34 in Utrecht, KwaZulu Natal.

The cause of the accident will remain a subject of a police investigation.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said Er24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found both vehicles in the middle of the road 100 meters apart. Parts of the vehicles were spread across the scene.

Meiring said on assessment, paramedics found the driver of the bakkie slumped over the steering wheel. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his severe injuries.

Meiring said six patients from the bakkie and one from the car were found on scene, their injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and thereafter transported them to Madadeni Hospital for further treatment.
