An investigation is underway
following the shooting of a police officer in Lusikisiki in the
Eastern Cape.
It is believed that
30-year-old Constable Zilungile Dubula was attending to a business robbery when
she was shot at.
Lieutenant Khaya Tonjeni said the members were responding to a business robbery at one of the businesses in Main Street, Lusikisiki and when they approached the scene they were shot at by the suspects before they disembarked from the vehicle.
Tonjeni added that the members
fired back and a shootout ensued. One of the members, Constable Zilungile
Dubula, was shot in the upper and lower body. She was taken to hospital for
medical attention and she is reportedly to be in a stable condition.
A case of business burglary and
attempted murder has been opened and no arrests have been made as yet.
