Minister of State Security David Mahlobo said necessary actions are being taken involving a South African girl who is alleged to have links to a terrorist group.

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly recruited by Islamic State and was stopped by law enforcement agencies from boarding a flight out of the country at Cape Town International Airport.

Minister Mahlobo has called on parents to exercise caution and be concerned about what other activities their children may be involved in.

Ministerial Spokesperson Brian Fikani Dube says this was an issue of concern to us because as we indicated before no country is immune to terrorism and so when such things happen as a country you must be vigilant to ensure that you avoid this from happening.

“We are happy to indicate that the child has been reunited with the family and an investigation is currently underway to determine what had happened, how she got involved with these people and what was the recruitment model used and all the funding issues that are related in this particular matter” Dube added.
