The National Union of
Mineworkers said its internal consultation with its members regarding wage
demands is taking longer than anticipated.
This as the union has delayed
submitting its wage demand to the Chamber of Mines.
Meanwhile workers at Medupi
power station in Lephalale, Limpopo were on
Wednesday locked out after the demanded a bonus for the completion of Unit Six
of the power station.
NUM National Spokesperson
Livhuwani Mammburu said it has always been traditional behaviour to first
consult its members because they are the ones who give us the mandate of what
they want to see in their wage demand.
Mammburu said our wage demands
will be submitted to the Chamber of Mines before the end of our plan and we
expect that the opening wage negotiations ground to start towards the last week
of May.
