An accident on the N1 outside Bloemfontein has left one person dead and six injured.

It is believed that two vehicles collided into each other.

The exact details to the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said when ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found the road blocked by a wrecked light motor vehicle. The second vehicle lay off in the veld few meters away. Both vehicles had sustained a severe amount of damage in the collision.

Meiring said on assessment, paramedics discovered that the driver of one of the vehicles had sustained fatal injuries while the passenger had sustained critical injuries in the collision. Nothing more could be done for the driver and he was declared on scene.

Meiring added, five other patients were found in the second vehicle, their injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Paramedics carefully removed the patients from the vehicle, including the critically injured patient.

Meirng said the patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to various hospitals for further treatment.
