The National Sea Rescue Institute
in Port Edward and the volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated on
Saturday to assist lifeguards at Main Beach who
had responded to rescue a 47 year old male from the water who was being swept
out to sea by rip-currents.

Lambinon said NSRI in Port Edward sea rescue volunteers arrived at the scene to
find lifeguards had rescued the male from the surf and started with first aid
efforts.
Lambinon also said paramedics
were called to the scene and continued with advanced life support on their
arrival but after all efforts were exhausted on the scene the man, from Port
Shepstone, was declared deceased.
He added that the body
of the deceased man has been handed into the care of Police and the Forensic
Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.
