The Democratic Alliance is calling on government to provide answers as to who authorized the use of live ammunition during a protest in Durban Deep which resulted in one person being killed allegedly by police on Thursday.

DA Gauteng Premier Mmusi Maimane said it is clear that the real concerns of the Durban Deep community have fallen on deaf ears.

“What happened in Durban Deep is a crime against our freedom. People were protesting for their rights and the police found a way to shoot them.

We feel that there must be an extensive investigation and proper response given to the people in order to get to the bottom of this tragic shooting.” Maimane added.
