The Democratic Alliance has claimed that the fact that Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters has decided to release the preliminary festive season road death statistics is damage control.

DA MP of Transport Ian Ollis said Minister Peters owes it to the public to wait until after the weekend before releasing the figures.

Ollis said normally the festive season ends on the 13th of January when all the holiday makers have returned including the school learners. He also said for Minister to rush to release the statistics now is some cover up for the high number of deaths on our roads.

Transport Minister Dipuo Peters is expected to release the figures today.
