Three more die in mining accidents

A few days before the National Strike which will happen on Tuesday 4 December 2007, on safety in the mines, three more mine workers died in separate accidents today.

“One miner died at Angloplat in Rustenburg after having been pulled by a scraper while the other died this afternoon at Xtrata after a mortar exploded on him. The other miner died at Kloof mine,” says NUM national spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka.

According to NUM, over 40 000 members will meet tomorrow at Impala stadium in commemoration of their 25th birthday as well as mapping the way forward for the strike of Tuesday.

The National Minister of Minerals and Energy, her Director-General, the ANC 's Popo Molefe and other high ranking officials are expected to attend.
