The Democratic Alliance on Thursday
said the dire shortage of mental healthcare professionals in the public’s
sphere needs to be addressed urgently.
DA Deputy MP of Health Denise Robinson
said the shortage of mental health workers in the public sector has an impact
on the implementation of legislation such as the Child Justice Act.
“I feel that it must be prioritized
by the Department of Health and I will be chasing this matter up with Dr Aaron Motsoaledi.
The problems this country has crime,
rape, abuse, depression, suicide this are all indicators that all is not well
in our mental health world,” Robinson added.
