The Western Cape Education Department said recent statements from people claiming that the department has neglected poorer schools and that no support has been given to the learners is misleading.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the department acknowledges that there is still improvement needed in education outcomes in Quintile 1-3 schools.

Casey said the results in poorer schools have improved significantly and in quintile 1-3 schools the results from 16.12 percent to 73.5%.

She added that there has also been an increase in the number of bachelor passes which is very important and it also means more than before will an opportunity to apply for University.
