Trade union solidarity will ask parliament on behalf of thousands of South African whether young people may be exempted from affirmative action by means of amendment act.

Solidarity’s amendment which is called the amendment Act on Free-born South Africans, is proposing that the Employment Equity Act be amended so that all South Africans who have entered school since 1994 benefit from affirmative action. The designated group that the amendment is aimed for are black people, females, disabled persons and free-born South Africans.

“We believe that we are now in a stage in South Africa where we must free all young people to take part in the economy and to grow our country to create a better future,” says spokesperson of Solidarity Jaco Kleynhans.

The proposal will be presented to parliament tomorrow.
