The MEC for Education in the Western Cape, Cameron Dugmore has announced that R6 million will be invested in numeracy and literacy in poorer communities, particularly to improve quality of education.
This will take place within the next three years which will include, 100 bursaries for maths and science teachers.
“The department already has other programmes and policies in place to improve the quality of education. Some of our interventions have started to show that successes are possible but that we need to replicate those successes,” says spokesperson for Education, Gert Witbooi.
“We are particularly encouraged with schools for example in the Brede, Overberg and West Coast area where early successes of literacy and numeracy strategies are already recorded,” says Witbooi.
