More than 120 people have been left homeless due to two fires in the Cape Flats.

One fire occurred at the California informal settlement in Mfuleni's Section Six last night.

Another fire accident took place at Valhalla Park in the early hours of this morning.

No injuries were reported in both incidents.

Fire Spokesperson Theo Layne said fires are caused mostly by people being negligent.  Fires in informal settlements are caused by cooking, heating but majority of the fires are caused by illegal connection.

Layne called on the public to be more aware when dealing with electric appliances.
