beach-safety child arm bands launched at City beaches

The City of Cape Town and the Disaster Risk Management Service and the Social Development Department embarked on a new system to register children visiting beaches.

An armband with a serial number is placed on a child with their parent or guardian’s contact number, in the event of the child getting lost or in case of any emergency.

Mayoral Committee Member of Safety and Security JP Smith daid that annually, they spend many hours with lost children during the peak holidays caring for the children.

“It can be very traumatic for a child” he added
