It has been reported that the South African Banking Risk Information Centre has urged the public to avoid withdrawing large sums of money.

Sabric's Kalyani Pillay said people withdrawing money are often targeted by robbers, especially during the festive season.

Pillay added that warned members of savings groups to be vigilant when depositing or withdrawing money, as they have been targeted by criminals in the past.

More than 20 ATM’s have been bombed in the Western Cape one case this week, where an ATM was bombed in a garage in Eerste River.
