Groote Schuur Hospital Alaric Jacobs said they are expecting an increase this
year of cases of severe neck injuries due to diving incidents since this month
they have admitted four patients already.

Groote Schuur Hospital ’s Acute Spinal
Cord injury Unit today said they have admitted and treated about seven patients
every year who sustain severe neck injuries caused by diving.

Cord injury Unit is urging people when diving they must dive feet first. Head first diving, whether with outstretched
arms is extremely risky.
Jacobs added that diving accidents are
preventable.
