The Democratic Alliance said it has conducted an extensive analysis of the New Age newspaper’s advertising for the period between October 31st and November 15th 2012.

After the analysis, the DA concluded that the government is overspending on advertising in the publication, given its uncertified readership levels.

The DA concluded that since government advertising surpasses advertising from any other source in the New Age, it is almost entirely dependant on public money to remain afloat.

DA National Spokesperson Mmusi Maimane said the newspaper is unduly receiving money from government.

“There is no evidence that links the fact that they deserve such a proportional amount of government spend in advertising, as a result of that; we feel that this is state sponsored corruption that ultimately is benefiting the Gupta’s who are very close friends with the president”  Maimane said.
