WC Health Department officials respond to SAMA

The Western Cape Department of Health has officially respondent to the report released by the South African Medical Association.

The Provincial Health Department Head Professor Craig Househam said that the decision to transfer Groote Schuur and Tygerberg Hospitals to the National Department of Health was not based on support for any political party but rather sound management and health system principles.

Househam said that SAMA was incorrect is thinking that money is taken from the national fund to the needs either than those of either than that of Grooteschuur and Tygerberg hospitals.

“The Western Cape funds these hospitals by an additional R450 million in one year” Househam said.
