Western Cape MEC for Community Safety Dan Plato on Thursday said the South African Police Service should work with medics and not against them.

This follows a report that SAPS officers allegedly manhandled a medic at an accident scene earlier in the week.

MEC Plato added that he will also be speaking to MEC of Health Thenus Botha about the best way to address the matter.

Plato said he has written a letter to Provincial Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer to ask for a full report about the incident of the police officer’s conduct as well as the fire and medical entities to give their perspective of the incident so that the problem can be eliminated.

“I think that is what the public of the Western Cape want and deserve, that the police and medical staff work in unity” Plato said
