R500 million to be allocated for Student Housing

Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimande announced today that he has allocated more than R500 million for student housing at 24 state owned universities in South Africa.

Department spokesperson Kwaye Nkwanyana said the funds for student housing were part of the allocations approved by Nzimande for the Infrastructure and Efficiency Output Grant for the 2015/2016 financial year.

The allocations include R700 million for backlog maintenance, refurbishment/remodelling.
