The City of Cape Town has approved a plot of land in Rondebosch East for affordable housing development. Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis announced that the seven hectares at the intersection of Kromboom Road and Seventh Avenue will be used for mixed-use development, with plans for a public consultation process to follow.
He emphasised the city's commitment to
increasing affordable housing options in the metro-pole area. Over the past two
years, the city has made available sites for more than 4,200 affordable housing
units, including locations in Cape Town's inner city and key economic areas.
Mayor Hill-Lewis also mentioned that the city
is working with the national government to unlock more land that could provide
around 100,000 affordable housing units.
