Four foreign nationals were arrested in Melkbosstrand, on Monday night, after they allegedly perpetrated a house robbery in the rural area at a smallholding.
The police’s Malcolm Pojie says the female victim alerted
officers of her ordeal.
‘’A collaborative effort by Melkbosstrand SAPS, Sea Border
Police, Melkbosstrand Neighbourhood Watch, Community Safety and Support, Rural
Safety and City of Cape Town Law Enforcement led to the arrests of four
Namibian nationals shortly after they allegedly perpetrated a house robbery in
the rural area of Melkbosstrand on Monday, 19 August 2024 at a smallholding,’’
said Lt Col Malcolm Pojie
‘’Preliminary information reveals that on the same day at
about 22:00, the victim, a female adult alerted members performing crime
prevention duties along the R27, of her ordeal. She made a report that she was
tied up at her small holding while the suspects searched the house for
valuables where after they fled with jewellery and electronic devices. She
meanwhile managed to free herself to seek help.’’
‘’The members immediately mobilised all resources to their
disposal and initiated a search and cordon off operation to trace the suspects
who were believed to still be in the rural area. The efforts of the integrated
multi-disciplinary team paid off when they detected the four suspects in the
adjacent farmlands with the help of a thermal device used during the search for
the suspects,’’ he added.
The police spokesperson says the four suspects aged between
29 and 35 were arrested and officers managed to retrieve some of the stolen
items, jewellery and electronic devices, as well as the weapons used by them
during the house robbery which included knives and screwdrivers.The suspects
are scheduled to appear in the Atlantis Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, on a
charge of house robbery.
