Two Suspects Arrested for Possession of Drugs Worth Over R4.9 Million

The Hawks' South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau team in Western Cape, along with Crime Intelligence's counter narcotics team, have arrested two suspects aged 21 and 38 for possession of drugs worth over R4.9 million.

The incident occurred in the Strand area on the evening of August 23, 2024. Acting on information about a vehicle transporting drugs from Gauteng to Cape Town, the team spotted and stopped the vehicle on the N2 highway.

During the search, the officers discovered 71,000 mandrax tablets (71 packets) and 14 kg (14 bricks) of cocaine, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.

The two suspects were arrested for drug dealing and are set to appear in the Strand Magistrates Court on Monday.
