The Good Party has called on the Democratic Alliance (DA) to explain why it is charging the residents of Cape Town more for electricity.
According to the Good Party, the city is battling court cases because it wants to
implement higher electricity increases than those that the National Energy
Regulator approved.
Good Party councillor in Cape Town, Anton Louw, says the DA-governed city is
also charging some residents a monthly surcharge tariff on electricity.
“In
July this year the DA demanded an end to the R200 electricity surge charge in
the city of Johannesburg. However, this practice has been very popular in Cape
Town for years. Here properties valued over 1 million rand have a fixed charge
of two hundred and forty-five rand. The DA has played an undeniable role in
driving up the prices of electricity.” Good Party councillor in Cape Town,
Anton Louw.
He
further said that this “crisis” as he calls it, must be urgently debated over
and the DA must finally come clean.
