Cricket South Africa and long time associate, Mutual & Federal, will officially launch the 2007 Mutual & Federal SA Cricket Annual as well as the 2007/08 South African season at a banquet to be held in Johannesburg on Monday.
“The highlight of the evening is always the announcement of the Mutual & Federal Annual’s five cricketers of the year by the editor Colin Bryden,” says Michael Owen-Smith Media Officer of Cricket South Africa.
Owen-Smith Added that in this respect the annual will be reverting to a past tradition by honouring cricketers who have not been chosen for this prestigious award before.
“In the past the announcement of the five cricketers of the year has been understandably dominated by players from the Proteas’ squad and there are still candidates from this area who have not been honoured before,” says Owen-Smith.
Owen-Smith says the launch of the Mutual & Federal annual comes as the South African season moves into top gear with the first Castle Test between South Africa and New Zealand starting at the Liberty Life Wanderers on Thursday.
“The domestic SuperSport Series also resumes with its third round of matches after a fortnight break while the national women’s team is about to leave for Pakistan to compete in the ICC women’s World Cup qualifying tournament,” says Owen-Smith.
