The parliamentary portfolio committee on housing has commended the Minister of Housing for her quick response on the issue being raised by beneficiaries of a housing project in Thabo Mbeki village during September.
In 2003 houses were destroyed by a tornado at the Thabo Mbeki village, the houses were rebuilt, but due to unacceptable work done by the building contractor the rebuilt houses roofs were blown away.
After the committee visited the housing development concerns were raised that houses needed to be demolished in accordance with a National Home Builders Registration Council report.
The Minister of Housing then pledged that her department will act immediately and the houses are due for completion in December 2007.
“At the moment only 216 of the 503 housing unit have been completed, “says the Honourable Zoliswa Kota- Fredericks on behalf of the Portfolio Committee on Housing.
