Strike action enters its second week at Durban‘s Moses Mabidha 2010 stadium and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) considers to spread the action to all 2010 projects if progress is not made in terms of the dispute resolution in Durban.

“The companies, WBHO and Group Five agreed to project bonuses and now they do not want to move. We will spread action to all other 2010 projects so that the message is clear and loud” says Bonginkosi Mncwabe, the NUM ‘s Regional Coordinator in Kwazulu-Natal.

According to Mncwabe Companies were able to receive interdicts through dubious means last week with unsigned affidavits with no oaths taken and the NUM is challenging all that in Court.

“We represent the bulk of the workers at Moses Mabidha. The rest of the remaining workers joined the NUM last week and as the NUM, we do not have a waiting period for people to be members” says Mncwabe

“The issue of safety has to be taken seriously by these companies and we cant compromise our members lives anymore. Our members need guarantees they will be safe and that when huge profits are made by the companies, they will still be able to walk back home” says Mncwabe.
