The City of Cape Town now regrets their decision of cancelling the Abolition of Slavery March due to an increased number of festivities this season.
“Given the limited resources available, every effort was made by the City to accommodate the event at the static location. The city negotiated with the organizers to confine the activities to Church Square,” says Executive director for Economic, Social Development and Tourism, Mansoor Mohamed.
Mohamed added that on Friday morning they agreed to this proposal but decided not to pursue this option this year and notified the city that they were cancelling the event.
“I expressed my regret of the cancellation of the event and I have given a commitment that the city’s event office will assist in the planning for the event next year,” says Mohamed.
