Around 970 000 begin the 2013 school year in the WC

The Western Cape Department of Education today said around 970 000 learners have started their 2013 school year.

Ministerial spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the WCED is on stand-by to provide assistance at schools where there are late registrations and any other last minute tasks that need to be completed.

Casey added that the departments focus this year would be to improve mathematics and language results.

Cynthia Kashala a grade 7 learner from St Agnes Primary School in Woodstock said she was excited to be in her final year of primary school, and she is ready for the hard work ahead.

Yamkela Xhontelo from Sophumelela Secondary School in Samora Machel who is doing Grade 12 this year said after matric she wants to study to become a quantity surveyor.
