Johan Burger of the Institute of Security Studies has called for the Khayelitsha investigation to become a national commission of inquiry.

This follows the Western Cape High Court dismissing an application by Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa for the Commission to be suspended, with costs to be settled by the Minister.

Burger said that the Institute believes that if there could be a judicial commission that investigates what is wrong within the police, and the cause of the problem.

“The Commission should make recommendations in terms of the problems that identified, and addressed” Burger added.
