The National Sea Rescue Institute on Wednesday night was activated following reports of a kite boarder in difficulty while swimming.

The incident happened between Kommetjie and Scarborough.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the NSRI in Kommetjie had to launch their boat after the eye witness reported the kite boarder had left his board on the beach and then swam after his kite which he had lost at sea

Lambinon Explains that the kite boarder then got swept away in a rip current experienced and the eye witness then felt he was in difficulty.

Lambinon adds that when NSRI arrived on scene a surfer was helping the kite boarder to shore and once he was safely ashore he was in a safe condition and had not sustained any injuries and therefore did not require any further assistance.

The man’s kite has been lost at sea.
