Protests against Stellenbosch farm evictions
Cosatu is joining protest action against farm evictions in the Jonkershoek area in Stellenbosch in the Boland. The Jonkershoek Crisis Committee and other organisations are holding a march along the N-2 highway near Stellenbosch, following a spate of evictions. The demonstrators are hoping to hand over a memorandum to Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool. The trade union federation says it is outraged at what it calls the blatant racism of some farmers. Eyewitness News reports that Cosatu has called on those affected to occupy the farms.
