Western Cape voters will have the widest choice of parties to select from on Election Day.
The Independent Electoral Commission says 42 parties will contest the provincial election countrywide, with 22 parties registered in the Western Cape.
The Gauteng province has the second highest number of parties at 20, with KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Northern Cape coming in with 18 each.
The IEC says 28 parties will contest the elections for the National Assembly.
However some parties have not met the deadline and as a result would have to wait another five years to contest the polls.
The IEC said they were quite satisfied with the manner in which most parties submitted their lists.
