The Western Cape Department of Helath says the death of 5month was not related to the vaccination as the autopsy results indicated that the baby died of natural causes.
Health Department spokesperson Faiza Steyn says the girl was presented as dead on arrival at the hospital.
“The second baby, 14 week old baby boy presented to the clinic to receive his scheduled vaccines on the day and later brought back to the Manenburg Clinic, not breathing.
She added that autopsy results are not yet available; the 2 incidences are not related. It was unfortunate and coincidental that the two babies presented on the same day.
“According to our records there were no mass transferrals from Manenberg Clinic to Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital over the last few days, said Steyn.
