Cosatu is excited about Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe’s announcement that all people with HIV with CD-4 counts below 350 are to be offered antiretroviral treatment.

Spokesperson Patrick Craven says the decision will improve the quality of life of many people with HIV and reduce deaths. Cosatu also applauds government’s decision to budget five-billion-Rands for the first year of treatment, with another billion rand added in the next financial year.

Motlanthe gave the assurance that the ARV programme will be integrated into the future National Health Insurance scheme.
