The South African Municipal Workers Union has announced that its members throughout the country are about to go on strike.
Spokesperson Tahir Sema says the Local Government Association's failure to meet Samwu’s demands leaves the union with no other choice.
The date of the strike will be announced soon.
The union had rejected Salga's previous offer of a six-percent increase, as well as the 7.5% raise proposed by an independent facilitator.
It wants an increase of 18% or R2 000 per month, whichever is greater.
