Free State police say six people were killed when a taxi plunged down a mountain slope near Golden Gate on Saturday.
Another six were seriously injured.
The victims were on their way to a funeral in Fouriesburg. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle on a sharp curve.
Emergency staff battled for several hours to reach and retrieve the injured and dead.
