The Congress of South African Trade Union in the Western Cape will be laying a complaint to the Human Rights Commission over what it regards as unfair load shedding schedules.

Over the weekend Eskom implemented load shedding across the country as ongoing problems at the Majuba Power Station in Mpumalanga continues.

Cosatu’s Tony Ehrenreich said the load shedding that has taken place recently in the City of Cape Town has strong racist undertones.

Ehrenreich said this load shedding pattern really just continues the City of Cape Town’s practice of maintaining the advantages for the wealthier, mainly white communities in Cape Town.

Ehrenreich said this practice can be observed from the Landscaping in those areas to the My City bus schedules in those areas, to the electricity supply now.

“The City leaders has little regard for the needs of the communities on the Cape Flats, in the way in which this City is run Ehrenreich added.
