Pharma Dynamics has highlighted the often overlooked link between HIV and mental illness.

Mariska Fouche, Public Affairs Manager for Pharma Dynamics says those living with HIV/Aids are at high risk for developing depression and other mental illnesses.

A recent study done by the Human Sciences Research Council found that 44 percent HIV-positive persons that participated in the survey were in fact suffering from a mental disorder.

Fouche said that being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS has a direct impact on the central nervous system which causes various neuro-psychiatric complications such as mania, cognitive disorder and frank dimensia.

“As a provider of central nervous system medication, Pharma Dynamics has established a free helpline for those who suffering from depression, trauma and anxiety; manned by trained councilors seven days a week” she added.
