The matric learners today received their individual matric results.

The African Christian Democratic Party said they are confident on the results released based on their visit to the National Senior Certificate marking process.

ACDP Member of Parliament Cheryllyn Dudley said they came away with a renewed confidence in the South African marking system and in the calibre of the men and women in the education system in general.

Dudley also said the ACDP shares concerns about a lack of confidence in pupils that results in too many opting for maths literacy instead of maths - and choosing not to study science.

She adds that many learners who have the potential to take these subjects do not, among the reasons given are the availability of teachers and the fear of failing as learners witness others not making the grade.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga announced that the 2012 matric pass rate is 73.9 percent.

The 2012 pass rate is an increase from the 70.2 percent recorded in 2011.
