Metrorail battles with fare evasions

Metrorail says it is battling widespread fare evasions as hundreds of people travel on trains without paying for their tickets.

Metrorail said some commuters were refusing to surrender old or invalid tickets and buy new ones.

Metrorail Regional Manger Mthuthuzeli Swart said as Metrorail and government they have been battling these fare evasions and vandalism on their trains.

Swart also said these are acts of criminality and have forced them to employ additional security personnel.
